Kmart
From humble beginnings to becoming two of Australia’s most iconic and beloved brands. We are Kmart and Target.
Australia’s first Target store opened in Geelong, Victoria, in 1926. Since then, Target has become known for offering the best value in elevated quality apparel and soft home products.
Over four decades later, in 1969, Australia welcomed its first Kmart store in suburban Burwood, Victoria. Kmart later expanded to New Zealand in 1988. From its suburban roots, Kmart has grown to become a staple in over 90 per cent of Australian homes, consistently delivering on its everyday low price promise.
In 2018 Kmart announced it would stop branding its products by department and streamline them under a single name, Anko. Anko is now the company’s own brand and product development arm also tasked with expansion into new overseas markets. The name is also an abbreviation of Kmart’s previous “&Co” branding, As well as being an acronym for “A New Kind Of”.
Today, we’re united, with over 150 years of delivering value to Australians and New Zealanders.
One business, two brands, with one purpose: a promise to making everyday living brighter by providing great value products at the best prices for Australians and New Zealanders.
